I grew up in a traditional Italian home; I didn’t eat much processed foods growing up. My mother believed that you should make everything from scratch.
I remember being in my early teens when I started thinking about my weight and the way I looked I was always very conscientious because I felt that most of my girlfriends were skinnier than I. Throughout high school, I was very active and involved in many sports which help me be disciplined and competitive throughout life.
At 17 I started volunteering at a boy’s community center. It was there that I realize that I enjoyed exercising. Shortly after that I started running and working out here and there but mostly running. I had my first child at 28, and I had gained 31 pounds, and of course this made me nervous because I wasn’t sure how it was going to come off. But within a week of having my daughter I was doing workout videos at home and ran when I could.
I was very fortunate that I was back to my size within months.
Had my second child at 32 with the weight gain of 32 pounds and again was able to lose it within a few short months. The reason I mention my pregnancies is because if you work out before pregnancy, you will have few problems losing your weight afterwards.
Working out has been one of the best things for me throughout life, It has help me get through some of my darkest days and some of my sunniest as well. Working out keeps me focused and contributes to achieving my goals and has kept me positive and disciplined. Through reading and workshops, I have learned so much about foods and the effects and tolls it takes on our bodies.
In the last couple of years, I’ve been working out at BBD. Sometimes working out on my own utilizing their equipment i.e. the step master and treadmill, I also participate in Caroline’s Boot camp and some personal training. The Caroline’s Boot Camp is an amazing all the way around push as much as you can work out that I’ve ever done, just when you think you can’t do one more, somehow you find it within you, and you do it. And it’s always surprising that I can do that workout.
Most of all I love how my body and brain reacts to my training.
I will continue this path of health until it can’t, I honestly believe I deserve the best for my body and mind.
So now I just try to keep it simple by eating clean, minimal processed foods workout and love myself.
