Before I came to Bodies by Design, I was a Yo-Yo dieter and occasionally went to the gym. Most of the time just long enough to get hurt.
Usually my back would take the brunt, and then I would have an excuse to stop working out.
Over the past 20 years, my weight kept climbing, by a pound or so every year, to the point where I realized I was not just a couple of pounds away from my goal weight.
I finally had enough of being tired and overweight and called my friend in desperation to ask her; what was her secret, since she looked terrific, and I knew she was very health conscious and active.
Her answer was Bodies by Design.
I called up BBD and came in for a tour.
I thought working out would help me to lose weight since I realized that only focusing on my food intake was not getting me anywhere anymore.
Fatigue at the end of the day was my all I knew. Sleep was my only source of renewing my energy bank. I had no muscle tone that my body could skip to, to help me with daily activity, such as caring grocery bags into the house, cleaning the house, hauling laundry baskets up and down the stairs.
My life, for the most part, is a sedentary life, sitting in the car taking my kids to school, sitting at my desk while at work, then sitting in the car again taking my kids to all their activities. I had no idea how to fit in working out, but I knew something had to change.
I started working out 2-3 times per week with a personal trainer. Elena was so encouraging, and she never let my self-doubt get the better of me. I needed the one on one training initially since I had no idea how to work my way through a gym.
I started taking classes as well, and at the beginning, I could barely keep up. I was and am inspired by all the ladies and occasional gents, who make the class.
As I started working out, my weight stayed the same for quite a while, but my dress size changed, I felt stronger and now was able to carry in all my groceries in one trip.
Like everything, my health has taken me on a journey. I am learning the delicate balance of needs and wants when it comes to food.
Every time I focus on my needs, I see a feel more encouraged to reach my goal.
I enjoy reaching these goals. Some are intentional, but others are so surprising like I no longer suffer from back pain because my core is stronger.
As well as being able to keep up with my two very active children. As a parent, we always want to strive to be the best role model for our children. Now I can say that I am happy to show them that being active is essential no matter what age you are.
I don’t want them ever to stop being active, I never want them to feel that they can’t do something because they are not fit enough.
We owe it to our bodies to keep it active, just the same way we keep our brain busy by learning and seeking knowledge.
