As a chef, you get sucked into a routine that revolves around trying all the different foods you make, especially while in culinary school. Along with sampling comes eating more and a continuation of consumption growth. This happened to me between 2010 and 2012.
By 2013, my whole diet had become a disaster. I was eating anything all the time, any amount, and also late at night. It was also a tough year for me as I injured my knee, which meant the little bit of soccer I was playing was slowly disappearing. I had to schedule a minor surgery for January 2014 due to a torn MCL and meniscus.
While I was recovering for six months, my poor diet continued. As 2015 came, I woke up one day and exploded with frustration when I took a look at my body. The Anthony of five years ago was no longer around. I didn’t want this anymore, and the image and weight I was carrying was not a nice feeling. I had a recovered knee but it wasn’t strong due to a lack of exercise. I had my girlfriend, brother, friends and family all trying to motivate me to head to the gym and start on my journey of weight loss.
One day I had flashes of all of these things everyone told me and I finally said,”I know what I need to do.”
The day I started my 2-on-1 training sessions at Bodies by Design was one of my favourite days ever. I managed to find that extra push to watch what I ate, when I ate and how much I ate. My trainer, Enrico gave me and my girlfriend tips and ideas of foods we can incorporate into our diet to further help us, and BBD’s Nutrient Coaching program also helped a lot! I trained twice a week with a trainer and once or twice on my own or with my partner, Jesica, and it felt great. I had learned new exercises from Enrico,which I could finally use on my own. It has been eight months since I began training and the journey has been amazing. It’s the best I’ve ever felt, I’ve become stronger and I feel alive.
Enrico has really pushed me to my limits as he has made the exercises challenging and he changes up his routines. Discovering these limits is a feeling that is indescribable as it’s been a shock seeing what I have achieved. Enrico is always paying close attention to the proper techniques in order to achieve the best results, and it has helped me learn the importance of doing an exercise correctly.
I started my journey at 196 pounds and a waist size of 38 inches. I am now 170 pounds and waist size 32! It feels absolutely amazing.
My next goal is to continue on this path of weight loss and work on body strengthening and becoming lean. I want to work on making this an integral part of my life, where it’s set in stone to be going to the gym five times a week. Working as a chef is difficult as working seven days a week is not uncommon, as are 10- or 12-hour days. It can become very stressful and tiring, so it’s important to make time for loved ones, friends and family. This is why balance is always difficult, but with determination and focus, youcan always find it.
Make exercise a part of you as it will give you many great results that you will be proud of! These results will drive you to discover new ones!

As a chef, you’re always involved with food, and that’s where my unhealthy journey began. When I went to culinary school I had moved away from home to live on campus, so my eating habits went out the window as I made poor food choices. After graduation I got a job in the cooking industry, and the hours of a chef or in the restaurant industry are crazy as there is no set schedule. As a result, I ate when I had time and I ate whatever I could throw down quickly.
When I came back from a vacation in February 2015 I couldn’t stand looking at myself in the mirror. I didn’t feel good in my own skin and my clothes didn’t fit anymore.
That’s when I decided to make some changes. I talked to my boyfriend, who was going though the same thing, and we decided to try the Bodies by Design fitness program.
When we started our 2-on-1 training with Enrico, it was one of the hardest things I had done in a very long time. We survived the first workout and we continued to train twice a week with a trainer and twice on our own. Enrico has taught us so much, from introducing healthy foods into our diets to new exercises we had never tried before. It’s been eight months now since I’ve been training with my partner Anthony and trainer Enrico. It’s been an amazing journey and I don’t want to look back.
My next goal is to keep going, keep working hard and to strengthen my body. BBD has taught me to not to give up, to keep going, to make time for yourself, and to make fitness a part of my routine and lifestyle. The BBD team is always so welcoming, which makes you feel like you’re part of them. I couldn’t be happier. an amazing journey and I don’t want to look back. I just want to keep moving forward and continually learning. I love training with Enrico because he won’t take “I can’t” for an answer. He always pushes me for more, even when I think I’m done. I started to love the post-workout muscle soreness, but most of all,
I love myself. I also love how much more energy I have, how I feel healthier, stronger and alive!
This experience has helped our relationship be stronger than ever because we work as a team, we help each other out with advice and with our hectic work schedules.

Anthony and Jesica’s lifestyle has been hustle and bustle for the past few years. As a result, their health and overall well-being suffered. Working a tremendous amount of hours, ravaging their nutrition and simply losing balance in life caught up to my two friends. It wasn’t until they had a clear vision in mind and set aside one hour in a 24-hour day for training that Anthony and Jesica woke up and liberated themselves from the mundane and mechanized way of life.
So far, Anthony and Jesica have made stupendous strides in reaching their goals of losing weight, toning up and feeling more balanced.
Training gave them strength, both physically and mentally, as well as better functionality of their bodies.
Kickboxing is their favourite paradigm of training to work within because it is engaging and comprehensive of the body. Tens of thousands of calories have been burned throughout the hours spent training my two friends this way.
Anthony and Jesica are still on the road to reaching their ultimate goals because life is always moving and changing. They both have learned with their minds and now it is in their hearts to continue to grow and better themselves every day.
