As we head into the cold winter months, there’s no doubt that many of us will be tempted to hibernate and indulge in the yummy comfort foods the holiday season has to offer. Lucky for us, we had the chance to catch up with Kris Simpson, the owner and operator of Bodies By Design Fitness Studios for a quick refresh on how to keep your body and mind in tune this season. Kris launched Bodies By Design in 1998, when he realized as a health enthusiast himself that the workout world needed a different type of gym that focused on individuality through personal training. The fitness studio offers training and physiotherapy, including Cryotherapy, often referred to as cold therapy, which involves the use oflow temperatures to treat a variety of issues.
“Our purpose is to transform the health and lives of those around us through inspiration, passion and drive,” is the studio’s core objective. With a team of trained experts and specialists across various areas of training, therapy and nutrition, the studio has continued to bring a new and innovative approach to health and fitness, offering a variety of programs to beginner, intermediate and advanced clients. The training specialists and health experts at Body By Design Fitness Studios focus on weight loss, body sculpting, nutritional management and active rehabilitation, which sets it apart from many other commercial gyms. It is also one of the first personal training studios in Woodbridge and the largest, with 10,000 square feet of space that hosts top of the line equipment, a cryotherapy room and of course, a corner for fresh and healthy shakes to power clients before and after their workouts. Each program is specifically designed to make it as simple as possible for the studio’s members to achieve optimal results and programs are suited to individual budgets, making a membership and access to a personal trainer more affordable than ever.
“The key to our client’s success is motivation and education, without those they are doomed to failure. That is simply why personal training is so successful; we are the teachers, mentors, and coaches who provide the know-how to make it happen,” says Kris. As a teacher and mentor to his clients, it’s no surprise that Kris is also dedicated to giving back to his community. He co-hosts the I Wish Ferrari event along with Daytona Sports Cars which gives special needs kids the ride of a lifetime. He also hosts a health seminar to raise money for a cause close to his heart, Million Dollar Smiles, which builds playgrounds for children diagnosed with a childhood illness and those with special needs. Kris’s family relies on their Scottish heritage when it comes to family mottos. “Our ancestors from Scotland used to train and sell falcons,” says Kris as he explains the origin of his family’s philosophy. “Taken from our Scottish coat of arms, ”Alis Nutrior” which is latin for “Fed by my wings”, is a metaphor for our family, which is our wings and empowers us spiritually,” Kris explains. Kris has lived in Sonoma Heights since 2001 and moved to Woodbridge after starting Bodies By Design in 1998.
“What I enjoy about living in Woodbridge is that it’s a great place to raise a family. It’s safe and has lots of recreational programs for children along with many amenities all very close in proximity. I’m proud to live in this community because of its incredible progress from what was once a small village, to now a very recognizable city,” says Kris. With two children to pass healthy habits down to, Kris is a mindful eater and health enthusiast who believes an active family is a happy family.
His son Christiano is 14 and a high-level soccer player and his daughter Ciara is already an elite gymnast at just 10 years old. “We participate in our children’s sports teams along with other parents in the community who host events from time to time,” he says. Kris also happens to be a community hero! Last spring, he and his girlfriend Mandy saved their next door neighbour froni a fire. This · summer Kris was awarded the bravery citation from the Mayor of Vaughan and received the silver Medal of Bravery from the honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor.
