How Bodies by Design was Born
I’ve always believed that nothing great was ever born out of good luck but rather through toiling and working through time and the tribulations to create something that could withstand some hard punches and still get back up to fight another day.
Such is the story of how BBD was born. It was late 1997 as Paul, the other founder of BBD and I were desperately seeking a place to call our new home. We had received a small business loan after numerous rejections from banks, but we needed a lease to secure it.
Time was ticking and we had run out of possibilities for leasing the appropriate space for our new business. We had just about given up but agreed to take one more drive to seek properties that would be suitable for us.
It was nearing midnight as we took a chance and went to the furthest western border of Woodbridge. We hadn’t looked this far because, then, this part of town was being called the “boonies.” As we drove north on Hwy#27, we could see nothing but empty fields and giant plastic factories.
Then, in what we thought was a sign from God, there it was, lit up like a little oasis in the middle of nowhere.
A new plaza which was utterly vacant but was the perfect place to settle and start our new business.
As we signed our lease and started building Bodies by Design, the troubles persisted. We ran out of money and almost didn’t open. When we did open we expanded quickly and almost ran out of money again.
But we persevered and became reborn again as we grew stronger from the challenges we faced.
And today we face changes just as every other business does. But the thing that hasn’t changed is our willingness to fight on another day.
And today marks year 21, of not just facing our own tests, but more importantly, helping our members win their challenges with health, fitness, and wellness.
And this was the reason BBD was born in the first place.
Sure we have some impressive stats like helping people lose over 100,000 pounds over the last 21 years along with countless Star Profile Challenge Winners, but moreover, I like to think that we allowed many of our members to be “born-again.”
To feel like a new, healthy, strong, empowered and confident person who just hasn’t changed physically, but mentally and emotionally too.
And for this, my team and I would like to wish BBD a Happy Birthday.
Today, you too are born again.
Inspire to Aspire for 21 years and MORE,
Kris and the team at BBD.
