There are 5 Foundations of Successful Weight Loss that when connected, form an unbreakable lifeline that keeps me grounded, navigates me out of severe storms and attaches itself to where the success treasure lies. All I need to do is hold on tight and keep trudging forward!
I’ve had my share of tough times and hard lessons. Maybe you have as well. My resume declares that I’m a graduate of the “School of Hard Knocks” and yes, I graduated with honors!
This is the school of life that seems to spin you around and occasionally spits you out. After I have had a chance to dust off and get back on solid ground, I go back to the drawing board and connect the dots.
I ask myself; so where did I go wrong? Why did I stop trying and give up after a few bumps and bruises? Why can’t I do this??
This 5 step success model works for mastering any area of your life where you want to make transformative change.
As a health coach, I have proven time and time again that it also works for weight-loss because this is the model I also use for all of my health participants. In retrospect, I have found that many weight loss programs fail because they weren’t built on all of the principles in this model.
Those who practice these principles consistently make extraordinary leaps that have others asking: “OMG – how did you do that??”
So what are the five foundations of a successful weight-loss program?
What is it that you want to accomplish this coming year?
Be specific and most of all, be realistic. Ask yourself; is my goal sustainable? What will it require of me? What will it require from others?
Perhaps you could consider that weight loss is not your goal because the weight gain that you experienced was only a symptom of your poor lifestyle and lack of self-care. Therefore it would make sense to diagnose the source of the problem than to put a Band-Aid on the symptom?
Why is this goal so important?
If we can get honest with ourselves, we know that we could experience so much more in our lives, or perhaps get back something we have lost if we could take better care of ourselves. But first, you need to nail down your WHY.
If your WHY is strong enough, you will find answers when life challenges you. Otherwise, you will find an excuse. Weak “Why’s” won’t stand up against the forces of life – Strong “Why’s” will stand the test of time.
I know from my experience, accomplishing health, fitness and weight loss goals is a roller coaster ride full of ups and downs. When I’m down, I ask myself “Why the hell am I doing this?”
This is when I find my MOJO and motivation to keep trudging along because my WHY’s are always bulletproof – otherwise, I wouldn’t have had the motivation to start in the first place.
Who is going to be your coach, teacher or mentor?
You will need a guide for any worthwhile and successful journey. This will save you time, money and effort. Who you choose should be carefully considered because this will be the person whom you will bestow all of your trust to create a clear path towards your goal.
I believe in this principle so much that although I am a coach, I have always had coaches and mentors to help guide me through the complications and challenges of life. I know that I wouldn’t have the freedom I enjoy today without their guidance.
How are you going to accomplish this goal?
This is again where your coach, teacher or mentor will guide you but you need to step into the plan and personalize it, so it’s a good fit for you. You can’t live in someone else’s design; this will only lead to a breakdown in the not so distant future and a collapse of what someone else has built for you.
With others and not alone.
This is the too often forgotten of the five success essentials. We are taught to be independent and that we can do it on our own but this is in conflict with our true human nature. We are a social species, and we need social
support to get through challenges and to make the necessary changes in our lives. Nobody has ever done anything worth mentioning on their own.
Keep your Head out of the Sand and in the Clouds, Dream, Believe & Inspire to Aspire.
