Steps to gain 1 pound in one minute:
1. weigh yourself
2. drink 500-750 ml of water in under 1 minute
3. weigh yourself again
Did you weight more the second time?
Steps to lose 1 pound in one hour:
1. Cut holes in the bottom of 3 garbage bags
2. Undress and pull the garbage bags over your head
3. Sit in a sauna or steam room for one hour
Did you weigh less when you came out of the sauna?
This experiment first of all is not recommended … and is only to show the volatility of weighing yourself and to prove that the biggest variable to a sketchy scale is mainly what we are made of – WATER !
Let’s face it, we are literally walking water bags and we can gain a pound in a minute or lose a pound in an hour!!
How can you reduce the variable of water during weighing yourself? Well the best way I have learned is by keeping it consistent…
1. Same scale
2. Same time of day
3. Same clothes on ( or keep em off ! )
Now life is never perfect and is always “variable” so keep that in mind when you’re weighing in and look at trends vs. the difference in your weight from one day to another. As long as the trend is favorable over a 30 day period then you are on the right track. Usually a good trend for most is the opposite of what a stock broker would want – we hope and pray for the downward trend!
Let me tell you a quick story about my experience with the Sketchy Scale. I was preparing for Mr. New York State Natural Championships and I became obsessed with the scale. I would weight in right out of bed ( in fact I think I use to sleep with my scale ), then I weighed myself again when I arrived at work ( I worked in a shipping /receiving department and guess what – they had a scale! ) and then I weighed myself again at the end of the day.
Not only did I lose weight, I lost my mind in the process and some of my colleagues say that there must have been some permanent damage LOL!
Case and point, KISS with the scale!
