Hey, Kris Simpson here from Bodies by Design. So how do you like to eat your nuts and seeds? I like to eat them as a snack which means with my hand, and usually it’s not just one handful, it’s multiple handfuls and that got me to problems recently. I was getting ready for a photo shoot and I plateaued with my weight-loss so I did take a really close look at my diet and I found out that I was over calories, and that was mainly due because of the nuts and seeds in my diet.
Now I love nuts and seeds. They’re awesome foods. They contain things like healthy fats, proteins, fibers, minerals and vitamins, they can curb your hunger and cravings. But what’s not so awesome is that they’re very dense and rich, they just contain a lot of calories.
So how many calories in Nuts and Seeds?
So let’s get a visual on this. The recommended serving size for all nuts and seeds is about one ounce. So in one ounce of almonds for example you’ve got 163 calories. You’ve got roughly the same amount of calories for things like pumpkin seeds, cashews, walnuts, pecans, and sesame seeds.
Now the problem is that on the average most people take in double the quantity or two ounces plus which doubles the amount of calories as well. So the solution for me was I had to start mixing in one ounce with my regular foods, things like salads and the stir-fries and even cereals and I was able to enjoy the nuts and seeds that I love without over-consuming them. So case in point, calories count, so get a grip on your nuts.
