A little over 4 weeks ago 2 friends were sitting in Tim Horton’s enjoying a coffee after a 6km run. One “pazza” said to the other let’s do a 10km run. Instead of “you’re crazy” or “we can’t”, the other “pazza” said “sure, let’s do it. We can.”So like crazies we signed up for the Sporting Life 10km race on Mother’s Day.
It was very symbolic; 2 moms, 2 friends testing our limits, reaching our goal. With 4 weeks before the race Nadia and I (both BBD regulars) knew we had to focus. With every week 6km moved to 7, then 8 until eventually we finally hit 10km without stopping. WHAT!!! We were ready, both physically and mentally to do this….
Yesterday morning at a little past 8am, with our families waiting at the finish we took off @ the sound of the horn. 27,000 runners headed down Yonge, strong and energetic. Strangers cheered, high fived and yelled out the motivational words we needed to hear as we were running out of steam and headed into our final turn. We crossed the finish line, both with our personal best times. We cried and were greeted by our children’s hugs (and chocolate milk). The medal was the icing on the cake. Life doesn’t get better than that……
Can’t think of a better mother’s day gift — having the guts and putting in the hard work to achieve a goal! We made the promise to ourselves it was our time to turn our potential into performance! We proved to ourselves that we could do anything we put our minds to…
Its time for you too. Select a goal, stick to the plan and defy your limits!!! You are worth it!!
All the best, Nadia and Daniela 🙂
