Laura started with Bodies by Design’s Anti Aging Exercise Program because she felt like she was in her 80’s but in reality was only turning 50!
As a child growing up in a large family, we ate mainly bread, rice and potatoes. And we also had dessert every night! I was always active in sports and so was able to maintain a fairly healthy weight throughout my childhood.
As an adult, though, my weight began to yo-yo. I would gain weight and then lose weight. Before my wedding I lost 30 pounds and weighed in at 112 pounds. But the weight kept creeping back on. I was always on a diet trying to lose weight. In September I weighed in at just under 180 pounds — the same weight I had been when I gave birth to my daughter 13 years earlier!
I felt horrible. I was tired all the time, not eating properly, stressed from running my own business and coping with elderly parents who were not well. I began to have chest pains, numbness in my left arm and I had intense pain in my lower back and down my left leg. I felt like I was falling apart. I underwent a series of tests and thankfully the doctors found nothing wrong with my heart. I had, however, severely pulled the muscles in my lower back and left hip, which was causing the pain. The pain at times was so severe I could hardly walk. I had to take painkillers just to do my Christmas shopping!

Kristopher: Hey there, Kristopher Simpson from Bodies by Design Personal Training. We’re glad to announce our next client star profile Laura who her story the year she turned 50 but that’s because she felt like she was turning 80. But you see that wasn’t really her wake up call. It’s actually a healthcare and also it turned that she had planned for her daughter for later that year.
So, here’s Laura with her trainer Alex. It’s our next star profile story.
[Music 00:00:22] Laura: Here she is now wanting your mom to do things with her and I was unable to do it. I was eating the wrong foods. I never had time to make a proper meal, so I grabbed that food or out of the box kind of thing, a lot of carbs. I was a 180 pounds and it was just too much. I don’t know where to go from here. I don’t want to be that with the rest of my life. I feel like 80. I’m turning 50. I have a 13-year-old daughter. I want to be around for her.
In January I made that New Year’s resolution like everyone does kind of become a better person and want to fit. I’ve seen Bodies by Design. I lived in an area I passed by many times. Also, they do the warm up at the MS walk every year which I put to fit in. I need somebody to help me. I don’t know what actually to do myself. My back is really hurting. I need to lose a weight. I’m afraid to do things on my own because I don’t want to make it worst. But personal training would be the way to solve and have somebody that could guide me, teach me what to do and to make sure doing things properly. Just take a deep breath, made the phone call and it really was the best thing I ever did. It’s always to become pain free. Everything else was [inaudible 00:02:16]. I want to lose weight but my main goal was to be able to walk without pain.
When I started the program I couldn’t fairly move at all. I was not flexible at all so we work on basically stretching for four to six weeks. At first I couldn’t use any [inaudible 00:02:32], everything like lunches in that which I could barely do it all, for all these body weight. Over a month, we just slowly increase everything I did. I was taught about the fat secret on how manageable I was eating and how it would help me to lose a weight.
Between the programs getting stronger working out and staying on the fat secret I was able to not only tone but to lose weight. I’ve actually gone from size 16 down to size 4. I don’t remember when it was a 4. My weight went from like 135 down to … I’m just over 131. I’m almost pain free. My life had changed incredibly. I didn’t know how to get there. I really wanted to. I worked really, really hard. My trainers are fabulous. Always motivated me. Always encouraged me never to give up. I actually feel so much better at 50 than I did it 30, 35. I’m much better shaped both physically and mentally like when [inaudible 00:03:38]. My daughter loved better. I just feel that I had been inspired to become the best way I can.
Alex: I introduced to her into our nutrition program. She later became religious to it. Every day she was longing on. The main reason why Laura is different from other people is that her mindset is totally there. It was there 100% at the time. Every time she came in even from the beginning, she was still motivated even when just a stretching. She had a lot of workload. She works tons that’s why she gets so in and that’s why she loves coming in all the time.
After we started noticing at first couple of months that she was losing weight, I know that she was coming with the base low interface, laughing all the time, going [inaudible 00:04:21] her every time, giving me hugs all the time. Her fitness level is 100% every time she came in. She’s always be there, always dedicated to workout. Never I knew she’ll never miss a session at all.
Laura: I did quite to [inaudible 00:04:32] times before I weight and that’s where they look at mine and shoot again and they’re like … I have slipped from having a lot of proteins and then someday I started to [inaudible 00:04:44] like carbs and when I realized that again, I [inaudible 00:04:47] carbs and then going sort of go down again. My family has become a lot more health conscious. My daughter is now doing the BBB and she’s doing the normal job. [Inaudible 00:05:01] to lose a little bit of weight and she feels more confident and I think it’s definitely …
Alex: It helped.
Laura: Definitely helping already. Yeah, I would have to continue my journey yet. So, I don’t know if I ever will.
Alex: She’s going on Friday.
Laura: But I will keep going.
Alex: You will.
Laura: You’re gonna help me.
Alex: Oh, I will. I’m sure.
Laura: You have future and no one else does and your journey to wellness like mine you can start now.
