Which mini-chocolate bar contains the most calories?

October 29, 2010 by

It’s Halloween, which means plenty of mini-chocolate bars usually end up within your grasp. These bite-sized snacks can be addictive, so are you aware which one has the most calories?

a) Caramilk

b) Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup

c) KitKat

d) Oh Henry!

It’s close, but there is a clear winner!

And the answer is: Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup!

A Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup has 80 calories per bar (as well as 9 grams of carbs and 4 grams of fat). Oh Henry! places a close second with 70 calories, KitKat has 60 and Caramilk has the least with 50 calories per bar.

Is it better to train in the morning?

October 22, 2010 by

42-15614410If it’s a priority, it should be at the top of your list, right?   Well then if you train in the morning you’ll indeed get it done and have the rest of day to complete your other tasks.  Leaving it until the evening opens you up to a score of issues and excuses, which will keep you away from the gym.  Want to get your day started in the right direction? Well, as you may know, exercise increases mental activity. By training in the morning, you’ll wake up faster and be mentally alert at the crack of dawn. It’ll also give you time to plan your day effectively before getting to work or on with your tasks for the day.  In addition, a good morning workout provides that rush of adrenaline and a sense of accomplishment that will stick with you throughout the day.

What muscle group burns the most calories?

back
Legs are the largest muscle group in the body and therefore have the potential to burn the most calories.  On another note, one muscle group that is overlooked for most people is the back muscles.  They are the second largest muscle group in the body and can also burn a lot of calories.  They also add to your V taper, making you look fabulous in a strapless dress!

“The gem cannot be polished without friction, nor man perfected without trials.” – Chinese proverb

“Great works are performed not by strength but by perseverance.” – Samuel Johnson

“Diamonds are made under pressure” – Author unknown

And of course from the Italian Stallion, “It’s not who has the hardest punch who wins, it’s the one who can take the hardest punches and keep getting up!”- Sylvester Stallone

Should I use artificial or real sugar in my coffee?

October 12, 2010 by

sugarMost people choose artificial sweeteners because they are calorie-free, but what few people know is that a teaspoon of sugar only has 20 calories, therefore, my vote is with real sugar.  An even better choice would be to use natural choices like honey or a stevia.  The final verdict is still not in on the harmful effects of artificial sweeteners like aspartame, sucralose and acesuflame potassium, but there is evidence to show that they may could cause an array of health issues.  On a final note, remember when using real sugar to not free-pour!

stressThe foods that are calming are: chamomile tea, potato, green sprout drinks, lentil soup, yams, sweet potato, protein is very grounding, and of course, water.   In retrospect, a sure sign that you’re experiencing stress is cravings for chocolate, coffee, ice cream, sugar and refined foods.

HungryI would suggest the 20-minute rule strategy, as it takes 20 minutes for most people’s brains to tell them they are full.

Eat 1 portion (check your portion sizes)

                Wait 20 minutes

                Have a healthy snack

                Wait 20 minutes

If you must, then have 2nd helping

Do hot peppers cause hemorrhoids or ulcers?

October 8, 2010 by

chili peppersAbsolutely not!  Capsaicinoids (the substances that give peppers their intensity) are broken down in the mouth and not in the remainder of the digestive system.  What hot peppers can cause is an increase in metabolic rate and also a release of endorphins.  Case and point: You won’t feel the heat in the toilet but you will feel it in your mouth!

How much cardio to lose 10lbs?

October 8, 2010 by

CB02895310lbs of fat is equal to 35,000 calories.  You could burn 500 plus calories with each cardio session, therefore, it could take up to 70 cardio sessions to reduce your weight by 10lbs. That’s why it is crucial to cut calories along with your cardio program or you’ll be on a treadmill for months trying to make a dent in the 35,000 calories you need to burn off.  Numbers don’t lie, so base your plan around these facts.

How important is it to count calories for weight loss?

October 8, 2010 by

CB107112Vital!  At the end of the day, if have overfilled your gas tank at the pumps, the gas spills over.  It’s no different when we overeat.  The only difference is that the spillover is the muffin top that we all dread when we put on our pants! Although there is much science that has to be applied when losing weight, it all starts with ensuring that the input/output ratio is in check (your daily activity must be greater than your daily calorie intake). Math first and Science second!
