Do fat burners work?

September 13, 2010 by

pill2Fat burners can suppress your appetite and increase your metabolic rate through thermogenesis (increasing your metabolism which produces more body heat). They are usually a blend of caffeine, B vitamins and other fat-burning enhancers.  There are also under-the-counter blends which include ephedrine (or ephedra) which are much stronger than their counterparts. They are a nervous system stimulant which could boost your workout intensity. There are side effects such as the crash after the “high,” nervousness and irritability.  Long-term effects are adrenal gland burnout which could lead to depression and possible psychological dependency.  I have personally used these supplements during my bodybuilding career and I do admit they do give you an edge but at the end of the day my diet first and training second was 99% of my success.

What are the leanest cuts of steak?

steakResearchers say consumers looking for the leanest cuts should opt for those with the word loin or round in the name, like sirloin and eye of round. Trimming excess fat before cooking reduces fat by up to 50 percent, and added fat can be kept to a minimum by using low-fat cooking methods, such as broiling, grilling and roasting, or moist-heat cooking methods such as braising and stewing. You should also remember that a 3-ounce portion of lean meat is equal in size to a deck of cards. My favourite lean steak is top sirloin steak, which only has 5 grams more fat per serving then the leanest steak, which is eye of round.  Stay lean this summer!

Can you lose more weight in the fall season?‏

42-16033251Well, if you suffer from S.D.S. (Summer Dropout Syndrome) then the answer is a definitive YES. I find people are generally trying to get all of they can from the short summer, which produces an unstable environment and leads to non-consistent workouts and a poor diet. I found that while I was a competitive bodybuilder, a stable environment was crucial for weight loss (I did not enjoy any of my summers…)  So if you suffer from S.D.S. then take advantage of a new season approaching and draw up some new plans, get consistent and take advantage of the stability that fall will bring. We’ll tackle the dilemma of S.A.D. (seasonal affective disorder) next season!
